Style names are attractive. "Modern", "Ibiza" or "green oasis" quickly create a feeling, but not yet a good plan. The risk is choosing mood before it is clear what the garden actually needs.
Ask first: what effect do I want to feel?
Behind every style there is usually an effect you are looking for:
- modern: calm, clarity and structure
- Ibiza mood: relaxation, lightness and a holiday rhythm
- green oasis: softness, shelter and a sense of nature
That effect matters more than the style label itself.
Test style against your space
A style fits better when it matches:
- the size and shape of the plot
- the amount of light
- the maintenance you can handle
- the way you actually use the garden
A lush green oasis, for example, needs different conditions and care from a crisp low-maintenance layout.
Notice where styles overlap
You do not have to choose a pure category. Often the best direction is a combination, such as modern structure with softer planting, or a calm Ibiza-like seating zone inside a more practical family garden. That is how style becomes believable instead of costume-like.
