How do you capture garden wishes so choices become clear faster?

Vague wishes keep a garden project open forever. Clear wishes make comparing and deciding much easier.

Many garden wishes stay too broad or too vague. "More cosy", "more green" or "something more modern" sounds reasonable, but it still does not help enough when you need to choose direction. That changes once wishes become specific enough to test decisions against.

Make wishes testable

A good wish helps you say yes or no later. Compare these:

  • vague: "we want more atmosphere"
  • stronger: "we want the seating area to feel calmer and more sheltered"

The second version is usable. You can compare design choices against it.

Split wishes into different types

It helps to divide wishes into:

  • use: what do we want to do here?
  • feeling: how should it feel?
  • practical: what should become easier or less annoying?
  • limits: what must it not become?

That last category often prevents a lot of doubt later.

Separate must-haves from nice-to-haves

Not every wish needs the same weight. Once you distinguish what is essential from what is optional, conversations become much calmer. Then you are no longer comparing everything with everything. You are deciding what protects the heart of the plan.
